The influence of spacing on some morphological features and the yield of chickpea was investigated in the years 1997-98. The seeds belonged to two different cultivars: Myles (desi type) and Dwelley (cabuli type) were sown on 8 May in row spacing of 15, 30, 40, 60 cm, and 5, 10 cm. Each experimental pots was 4.8 square m. The height of plant, number of pods were observed on 20 plants; the total yield of seeds was assessed from each plot. Spacing was not shown to be the main factor determining biological features chickpea. Environmental conditions turned out more important. The number of primary branches and the number of pods per plant were the highest in plots spaced 40 x 10 cm. A significant increase in the yield was obtained when the spacing rows was 5 cm. The highest yield from Myles cultivar was assessed from plants spaced 15 x 5 cm, and the highest yield from Dwelley cultivar was in 40 x 5 cm. No influence of vegetative growth on chickpea yield was observed
