The ground pressure exerted by agricultural machines

English. The problems of soil and subsoil compaction caused by the traffic of agricultural machines have been thoroughly discussed during the last 40 years. However, in spite of the continuous warnings of the scientific community, the industry keeps manufacturing heavier and heavier machines, especially when fully loaded, such as harvesting machines and trailers. The aim of this paper is to survey the overall mass of these machines and its distribution, the number of axles, the type and size of the tyres and their contact area (calculated using a validated model), in order to find the range of ground pressures exerted and to give an idea of the potential soil damages. Tyre ground pressure values varying significantly among the different machine categories were found. The influence of the tyres fitted (normal, wide, twin, etc.) and of the presence on board of tanks of large capacity containing materials harvested or to be distributed resulted also relevant. Trailers, slurry tankers, combine and sugar beet harvesters are the machines exerting the highest ground pressures
Show more [+] Less [-]Italian. [I problemi del compattamento del suolo e del sottosuolo causato dal traffico delle macchine agricole sono stati discussi approfonditamente negli ultimi 40 anni. Tuttavia, nonostante i continui avvertimenti della comunita' scientifica, l'industria continua a produrre macchine sempre piu' pesanti, specialmente quando sono a pieno carico, come macchine raccoglitrici e rimorchi. Lo scopo di questo lavoro consiste in un'indagine sul complesso di queste macchine e sulla rispettiva distribuzione, il numero di assi, il tipo e le dimensioni dei pneumatici e la loro area di contatto (calcolata utilizzando un modello validato), allo scopo di individuare la gamma delle pressioni sul suolo e di dare un'idea dei danni potenziali al terreno. E' stata messa in luce una variazione significativa dei valori di pressione dei pneumatici sul terreno fra le diverse categorie di macchine. E' risultata pure rilevante l'influenza dei pneumatici adatti (normali, larghi, gemellati, ecc.) e della presenza a bordo di serbatoi di grande capacita' contenenti materiali raccolti o da distribuire.
