Effects of terracing afforestation with Pinus sylvestris L. on the physical soil properties in the Iberian Range of Soria [Spain] | Efectos de las repoblaciones por terrazas con Pinus sylvestris L. en la propiedades físicas del suelo en el Sistema Ibérico soriano

The methodology previously used to study the afforestations by terraces with Pinus sylvestris L. in Castilla y León is extended in this paper to study in more detail the impact on physical soil properties of the afforestations by terraces with Scots pine in the northern area of the Iberian Range of Soria. The values of soil parameters are obtained from 5 profile types: non-afforested, next to the cutting, next to the embankment, between terraces and in Scots pine mature stands, located in seven plot series, and then compared. The soil parameters are evaluated as follows: fine earth, sand, silt and clay, both in the whole profile and in the upper layer of the profile, permeability, equivalent moisture and water holding capacity of the soil profile, and erodibility. After 16-17 years, no significant changes have occurred in the physical properties that define the soil habitat of the Pinus sylvestris in Spain. Significant fine particle retention, nonoutstanding decrease of permeability, considerable improvement of water holding capacity, no increase of erodibility and progress toward ecological conditions similar to the soils with mature stands are detected, with values within those of the present central habitat of the species in Spain. Regarding to the changes in the soil physical properties, this method result appropriate for afforesting with Pinus sylvestris the above-mentioned region.

Spanish; Castilian. En este trabajo se analizan los efectos de las repoblaciones por terrazas con Pinus sylvestris L. en el norte de la provincia de Soria. Partiendo del muestreo de 7 series de parcelas, se comparan los valores de los parámetros edáficos calculados en 5 tipos de perfiles localizados en: parcelas pre-repoblación, zonas de la terraza próximas al desmonte y al terraplén, entre terrazas, y parcelas con masa adulta de pino silvestre. Los parámetros evaluados son: tierra fina, arena, limo y arcilla tanto del perfil completo como de su parte superficial, permeabilidad, humedad equivalente y capacidad de retención de agua del perfil, y erosionabilidad. Transcurridos 16 ó 17 años desde su realización, las repoblaciones estudiadas no han causado un impacto significativo en las propiedades físicas que definen el hábitat edáfico de la especie. Se detecta retención de las partículas más finas, disminución no relevante de la permeabilidad, mejora importante de la capacidad de retención de agua, ausencia de incremento de la erosionabilidad y evolución hacia condiciones ecológicas similares a las de los suelos de las masas adultas, con valores coincidentes con los del hábitat edáfico central para la especie en España. Así, respecto a los cambios en las propiedades físicas del suelo, esta técnica resulta adecuada para la repoblación con Pinus sylvestris en la mencionada comarca.
