Results of an investigation on the prevalence of serological positivity to BHV-1 virus carried out in Verona and Vicenza provinces [Veneto]

The results of a serological monitoring program planned by the Veneto Region in order to evaluate the prevalence of seropositivity to BHV-1 virus in dairy cattle herds of the West Veneto area (Verona and Vicenza provinces) are showed. Altogether, it was found out a seropositivity (also referable to vaccination) equal to 54% of farms (2.776 of 5.166 farms were positive) and to 41% of tested animals (62.203 of 151.933 dairy cattle were positive). From the analysis of the gathered data, it is evident that the number of seronegative farms is mostly represented among the small-medium sized farms and that the proportion of seronegative farms tends progressively to decrease on raising of herd size

Vengono presentati i risultati di un monitoraggio sierologico predisposto dalla Regione Veneto per valutare la prevalenza di sieropositivita' nei confronti del virus BHV-1 negli allevamenti di bovini da latte dell'area del Veneto Occidentale (province di Verona e Vicenza). Complessivamente, e' stata rilevata una sieropositivita' (riferibile anche a vaccinazione) del 54% delle aziende (2.776 aziende sieropositive su 5.166) e del 41% degli animali esaminati (62.203 capi sieropositivi su 151.933). Dall'analisi dei risultati, risulta evidente che gli allevamenti sieronegativi sono prevalentemente rappresentati da unita' produttive medio-piccole, mentre la percentuale di sieronegativita' tende a diminuire progressivamente all'aumentare della dimensione aziendale
