Observation about the occurrence of "double fruits" in sweet cherry [Prunus avium Moench. - Apulia - Emilia-Romagna]

English. During the harvest season 1999, the occurrence of "double fruits" was observed for sweet cherry varieties, of which 21 grown in Bari and 9 in Piacenza. World literature on this subject explains the phenomenon as a consequence of a hot summer, that is the occurrence of high temperatures during the period of flower differentiation. For the 2 cherry districts, in 1998 the maximum temperature trends registered over the vegetative period were exceptional and uncommon. In particular, at Bari, in the period June-August, maximum temperatures were higher than + 35 deg C for 28 days. Results on double cherries also confirm the maximum occurrence of this commercial defect at Bari. This was observed for all varieties and for the two ones grown in both sites

Nell'estate del 1999 e' stata registrata la presenza di frutti gemellati in 21 cultivar di ciliegio da industria e in 9 da consumo fresco rispettivamente in ceraseti delle province di Bari e di Piacenza. In bibliografia la presenza di frutti gemellati e' attribuita ad elevate temperature nell'estate precedente, ossia durante la differenziazione delle gemme. L'andamento termometrico registrato nell'estate 1998 ha evidenziato temperature massime veramente eccezionali ed inusuali per entrambe le aree cerasicole e particolarmente a Bari (28 giorni con T max superiori a + 35 gradi C, tra giugno ed agosto). In quest'ultima provincia, anche la frequenza del fenomeno e' risultata nettamente superiore, tanto in generale quanto per le due cultivar comuni ad entrambe le localita'. Cio' sembrerebbe confermare la causa climatica della comparsa di tale anomalia nei frutti di ciliegio dolce
