English. Corky root of tomato caused by Pyrenochaeta lycopersici is a soil borne disease of economic concern for many tomato growing areas in Italy, both in greenhouse and in open field. Symptoms of the disease on seedlings are not always easy to detect. The isolation and the identification procedures are time consuming for the slow growth and the inconstant ability of the fungus to sporulate. The development of an efficient and reliable method based on PCR for the rapid identification and detection of the fungus directly from infected seedlings is described

La suberosi radicale del pomodoro causata da Pyrenochaeta lycopersici e' un patogeno a carico del suolo di importanza economica per molte zone di coltivazione del pomodoro in Italia, sia in serra, sia in pieno campo. I sintomi della malattia sulle piantine non sono sempre facili da riconoscere. Le procedure di isolamento e identificazione richiedono molto tempo, per la lenta crescita e la incostante capacita' del fungo di sporulare. Viene descritto lo sviluppo di un metodo efficiente e ripetibile basato sulla PCR, per la rapida identificazione e riconoscimento del fungo direttamente dalle piantine infette
