New Citrus genotypes as ornamental trees [Sicily]

English. In 2001 the Italian ornamental citrus production was estimated about 2 million trees. With the aim at identifying new ornamental varieties, 14 genotypes potentially interesting for this purpose have been grafted on 6 rootstocks (Alemow, sour orange, Rubidoux and Flying dragon trifoliate orange, Swingle citrumelo and Volkamer lemon). After 18 months from grafting, the canopy volume, fruit number for tree and thorniness have been measured. The genotypes more interesting have been the corrugate sour orange for its original fruit shape, the CLK 2139 for its good colour and fruit persistence, the C4528 for its fruits, similar to lemon but with orange peel, the kumquat G.A. Show more [+] Less [-]Italian. [Nel 2001 la produzione italiana di agrumi ornamentali era stimata in circa 2 milioni di piante. Allo scopo di identificare nuove varieta' ornamentali, 14 genotipi potenzialmente interessanti a questo scopo sono stati innestati su 6 portinnesti (Alemow, arancio amaro, arancio trifogliato Rubidoux e Flying dragon, citrumelo Swingle e limone Volkameriano). Dopo 18 mesi dall'innesto, sono stati rilevati il volume della chioma, il numero di frutti per pianta e la spinescenza. I genotipi piu' interessanti sono risultati l'arancio amaro corrugato per la forma originale dei frutti, l'ibrido CLK 2139 per il colore e la persistenza dei frutti, l'ibrido C4528 per i frutti, simili al limone ma con buccia color arancio, il kumquat G.A. (derivato dal kumquat obovato) per la spinescenza ridotta. L'Alemow e il limone Volkameriano inducevano, in generale, la maggiore crescita della chioma e il maggior numero di frutti per pianta]
