English. The marketing of plant propagating material within European Union (EU) requires the possess of a minimal sanitary status and the trueness to-type requirements. The achievement of this objective depends on both the availability of starting material pathogen-free and the respect of some important rules (critical steps) during planning and management of production. Among the main objectives of a three-year project (POM A32-Mis.2), carried out in Italy by several scientific institutions belonging to Objective 1 Italian Regions, there was a deep investigation of the Agricultural Ministry Act dated 14/4/1997, which incorporated the Directives 92/34/CEE, 93/48/CEE, 93/64/CEE and 93/79/CEE. The Ministry Act introduced a new class of stone fruit propagating material, the CAC category, and identified the critical steps in the production of CAC - class propagating material. In the present note, the results of the investigations of the most important critical steps (minimal sanitary status; list of pathogens known to affect the quality of plant production; phytosanitary inspections) in the production of the CAC - plant propagating materials of citrus, stone fruits, olive and grapevine are described

Il commercio del materiale di propagazione di specie frutticole in ambito comunitario richiede il soddisfacimento di requisiti minimi di qualita' di carattere agronomico e sanitario. Questo obiettivo puo' essere realizzato mediante il rispetto dei punti critici della filiera vivaistica. I punti critici possono essere riassunti in: professionalita' del vivaista; requisiti sanitari delle piante madri; requisiti delle strutture e attrezzature dedicate alla produzione; controlli fitosanitari; professionalita' dei laboratori accreditati e dei servizi di controllo. Il Progetto POM A32-Mis. 2, al quale hanno partecipato diverse istituzioni scientifiche e i servizi di sviluppo agricolo di alcune Regioni Italiane dell'Obiettivo 1, ha previsto tra i suoi obiettivi l'analisi del DM del 14/4/1997, il quale, oltre a introdurre una nuova categoria di materiale di propagazione (CAC), ha dato un importante contributo all'individuazione e alla definizione dei punti critici.
