Efecto repelente del extracto etanólico de Syzygium aromaticum sobre adultos de Aedes agypti cepa Rockefeller en condiciones de laboratorio | Repellent effect of the ethanolic extract of Syzygium aromaticum on adults of Aedes aegypti cepa Rockefeller in laboratory conditions

Esta investigación tuvo como finalidad determinar el efecto repelente del extracto etanólico de Syzygium aromaticum sobre la especie Aedes aegypti, la cual es de alta importancia en la salud pública a nivel mundial. Con el fin de evitar el uso de repelentes químicos, se investigan repelentes naturales alternos, los cuales no contaminan el ambiente con la misma intensidad. Para evaluar el efecto repelente del extracto de Syzygium aromaticum, se realizaron pruebas a 10 voluntarios con diferentes concentraciones al 0.1%, 0.5%, 1%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30% y 40% en busca de la dosis con la cual se tuvieran tiempos de repelencia mayores o iguales a 2 horas. El extracto de Syzygium aromaticum se dejó en refrigeración durante 6 meses, esto con el fin de verificar si después de este tiempo el extracto tenía las mismas propiedades de repelencia. Cada voluntario fue expuesto dentro de una jaula entomológica a 100 hembras adultas de Aedes aegypti. El extracto tiene propiedades repelentes donde se evidenció que la concentración óptima fue de 40%, la cual tiene un efecto de repelencia de 2 horas sin ninguna posadura; mientras que la misma concentración del extracto, después de los 6 meses tuvo variaciones en el tiempo de repelencia.

The purpose of this research was to determine the repellent effect of the ethanolic extract of Syzygium aromaticum on the Aedes aegypti species, which is of high importance in public health worldwide. In order to avoid the use of chemical repellents, alternative natural repellents are investigated, which do not contaminate the environment with the same intensity. To evaluate the repellent effect of Syzygium aromaticum extract, tests were performed on 10 volunteers with different concentrations at 0.1%, 0.5%, 1%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% in search of the dose with which would have repellency times greater than or equal to 2 hours. The extract of Syzygium aromaticum was left in refrigeration for 6 months, this in order to verify if after this time the extract had the same repellency properties. Each volunteer was exposed in an entomological cage to 100 adult females of Aedes aegypti. The extract has repellent properties where it was evidenced that the optimal concentration was 40%, which has a repellent effect of 2 hours without any posture; while the same concentration of the extract, after 6 months had variations in the repellency time.
