Sistema experto para el manejo de plagas del tomate asociado con café, en Grecia, Costa Rica

Durante el año 2000, en Grecia, Costa Rica se estudió la incidencia e impacto económico de las plagas del cultivo de tomate asociado con café y el manejo realizado por los productores en tres zonas altitudinales (de 600 a 1500 msnm). Se desarrolló un prototipo de sistemas experto como herramienta de avance tecnológico integrado por el sistema automatizado de evaluación de tierras (ALES) y el sistema de información geográfico (SIG), cuyos resultados fueron presentados en el programa Power Point de la Microsoft. Se determinaron y mapearon 11 unidades cartográficas homogéneas, con área total de 11043 ha (78 por ciento del cantón de Grecia), seis en la zona baja (5005 ha, 45 por ciento), tres en la zona intermedia (2948 ha, 27 por ciento) y dos en la zona alta (3090 ha, 28 por ciento). En el sistema de evaluación de tierras se elaboraron dos modelos generales referidos al cultivo de tomate en las estaciones seca y lluviosa, para evaluar su aptitud física, rendimiento y beneficio económico, con y sin presencia de plagas, sobre sus unidades de mapeo. En los modelos se desarrollaron 32 tipos de uso de la tierra con 10 características y 180 árboles de decisión. Las tendencias de las plagas fueron similares en las zonas baja e intermedia, mientras que en la zona alta fue menor la incidencia de insectos y mayor la de enfermedades. En las tres zonas estudiadas, los productores realizan el manejo de las plagas básicamente con plaguicidas, sobre todo en las zonas baja e intermedia, donde hay mayor área de siembra y experiencia. Las principales plagas del tomate asociado con café en Grecia, tuvieron tendencia diferenciada de acuerdo a la estación seca o lluviosa. En la estación seca hubo mayor presencia de insectos plagas, principalmente por Bemisia tabaci, Keiferia lycopersicella, Liriomyza sp., Heliothis sp. y Spodoptera sp. En la estación lluviosa, hubo mayor incidencia de enfermedades fungosas y bacterianas, principalmente de Phytophthora infestans, Alternaria solani, Xanthomonas campestris y Ralstonia solanacearum. En promedio, el efecto de plagas en la pérdida de producción de tomate es de 60 por ciento en las zonas baja e intermedia, y del 30-60 por ciento en la zona alta, para la estación seca. En la estación lluviosa es de 60-80 por ciento, en las zonas baja e intermedia y 75 por ciento en la zona alta. Los mejores rendimientos, se obtienen en la estación seca para toda la zona intermedia (67 t/ha), y los menores rendimientos en la estación lluviosa para la zona alta (8 t/ha). Las evaluaciones de la aptitud física para el tomate y las principales plagas realizadas mediante el ALES, no fueron diferentes a las expresadas por los productores y especialistas de la zona. Con el sistema experto desarrollado se logró concentrar y presentar el conocimiento generado por los expertos de manera integrada, lo que se puede ayudar en la toma de decisiones sobre el manejo plagas del tomate.

During 2000, in Grecia, Costa Rica it was studied the incidence and economic impact of pests in tomato associated with coffee plantation and the management realized by farmers in three different altitudinal zones (of 600 to 1500 msnm). A prototype of expert system was developed as a tool of technological advance integrated by the automatized lands evaluation system (ALES) and the geographic information system (SIG), wich results were presented in the program power point of Microsoft. There were determined and maped 11 cartographic homegeneous units with a total area of 11,043 ha (78 percent of Grecia), six in the lower zone (5005 ha, 45 percent), three in the intermediate zone (2.948 ha, 27 percent) and two in the upper zone (3090 ha, 28 percent). In the land evaluation system there were elaborated two general models refered to the tomato crop in the dry and rainy season, in order to evaluate its physical aptitude, yield and economic benefits with and without presence of pests over its units of map units. In the models there were developed 32 types of land use with 10 characteristics and 180 trees of decision. The tendency of pests were similar in the low and intermediate zones, while in the upuper zone the incidence of insects and large of diseases were less. In the three studied zones, the farmers basically realize their crop management with pesticides, overall in the lower and intermediate zones where there are the largest crop area and mayor experiences. The principal pests of tomato associated with coffee plantation in Grecia had different tendency in agreement to the dry and rainy season. The dry season had the largest presence of pest insects, mainly by Bemisia tabaci, Keiferia lycopersicella, Liriomyza sativae, Heliothis sp. and Spodoptera sp. In the rainy season it had the largest incidence of fungouses and bacterial diseases mainly caused by Phytophthora infestans, Alternaria solani, Xanthomonas campestris and Ralstonia solanacearum. In average, the effect of pests in the lose of tomato production, is of 60 percent in lower e intermediate zones, and 30-60 percent in the upper zone for dry season. In the rainy season represents 60-80 percent in lower and intermediate zones, and 75 percent in the upper zone. the better yield were obtained in the dry season for all the intermediate zone with 67 t/ha, and the lower yield in the rainy season in upper zone with 8 t/ha. The evaluations of physical aptitude for tomato and the main pests realized by ALES, were not different to the above-mentioned by farmers and specialists. The presentation of results of the integrated information and the given experts, may help in the making of decisions in the pest management of tomato. With the expert system developed the information was concentrated to integrate and present the generated knowledge by the experts and it may help in the making of decisions in the pest management of tomato.
