Identificación de bosques y sistemas agoforestales proveedores de servicios ecosistémicos para el sector agua potable en Nicaragua

El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar los bosques y sistemas agroforestales (SAF) que proveen servicios ecosistémicos (SE) importantes para reducir la vulnerabilidad del sector agua potable a los efectos del cambio climático en Nicaragua. Los resultados muestran que los bosques y SAF importantes para el sector agua potable se encuentran localizados, en su mayoría, en las regiones Pacífico y Central. {DA}nicamente el 20% de los bosques importantes se encuentran bajo el esquema de áreas protegidas. Estos resultados proporcionan elementos de análisis para la planificación del manejo adaptativo de estos ecosistemas forestales, de manera a reducir la vulnerabilidad del sector agua potable ante los efectos adversos del cambio climático.
Show more [+] Less [-]This study was aimed to identify the forests and agro-forestry systems (AFS) that provide important ecosystems services (ES) for vulnerability reduction to climate change in the potable water sector in Nicaragua. Results show that important forests and AFS are mainly located in the Pacific and Central regions and that only 20% of the important to very important forests are protected by the protected areas system. These results provide insights on the adaptive management measures for forests and AFS that would reduce the vulnerability of the potable water sector facing climate change.
