Rust of sunflower (Helianthus annuus), caused by the fungus Puccinia helianthi Schwein, continues to occur periodically in Russia and the former Soviet republics. In recent years and currently, there has been a further increase in the severity of the disease in Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Kazakhstan. In the European part of Russia, in the Middle and Southern Urals, in Moldova and Ukraine, the disease manifests itself everywhere with a development rate of 50% to 100%. In Siberia and beyond, as well as in Kazakhstan, rust is widespread, but with limited development up to 50%. Continuous microevolutionary processes occurring in P. helianthi populations contribute to the emergence of virulent physiological races. As a result, this leads to an increase in the harmfulness of rust on sunflower. In Russia and neighboring countries, the racial composition of the pathogen populations has not yet been sufficiently studied, since monitoring of their virulence is carried out to a limited extent. Monitoring of the virulence of races using a well-known test set of sunflower lines (Gulya, Masirevic, 1996) was proposed. Constant monitoring of P. helianthi virulence and selection for resistance of varieties and hybrids is the most promising and effective measure in protecting sunflowers from this dangerous and harmful disease. / Ржавчина подсолнечника (Helianthus annuus), возбудителем которой является гриб Puccinia helianthi Schwein, продолжает периодически отмечаться в России и бывших республиках СССР. В последние годы и в настоящее время происходит дальнейшее нарастание вредоносности болезни в России, Украине, Молдавии и Казахстане. В европейской части России, на Среднем и Южном Урале, в Молдавии и Украине заболевание проявляется повсеместно с развитием от 50% до 100%. В Сибири и далее, а также в Казахстане ржавчина распространена повсеместно, но с ограниченным развитием до 50%. Непрерывные микроэволюционные процессы, происходящие в популяциях P. helianthi, способствуют появлению вирулентных физиологических рас. В итоге, это приводит к нарастанию вредоносности ржавчины на подсолнечнике. В Росси и соседних странах расовый состав популяций патогена пока исследован недостаточно, поскольку мониторинг их вирулентности осуществляется ограниченно. Предложен мониторинг вирулентности рас с помощью известного тест-набора линий подсолнечника (Gulya, Masirevic′,1996). Постоянный мониторинг вирулентности P. helianthi и селекция на устойчивость сортов и гибридов – наиболее перспективное и эффективное мероприятие в защите подсолнечника от этой опасной и вредоносной болезни.
