Different minimum soil tillage practices are becoming more and more popular as the minimum soil tillage has several advantages compared to the traditional soil tillage system: lower costs, time savings, etc. Winter wheat is one of the most widely grown crops in Latvia which is often grown in repeated sowings leading to multiplying of specific weed species. The aim of the study was to evaluate weed infestation of winter wheat depending on the soil tillage system and pre-crop. A twofactor field trial was set up in the training and research farm “Pēterlauki” from 2018 to 2020: (1) soil tillage system and (2) precrop. Weed assessments were carried out in winter wheat crop twice a year during the vegetation period: the first time in the spring before applying herbicides to determine weed species composition and the number of weeds mE−2, the second time before harvesting to determine the number of weeds mE−2 and weeds’ fresh weight g mE−2. The results showed that the number of perennial weeds increased by replacing traditional soil tillage with minimum tillage. An increase in the number of monocotyledonous weeds was not detected after minimum soil tillage. A smaller number of weeds was found in winter wheat grown after traditional soil tillage, but the fresh weight of weeds was higher after minimum soil tillage. The lowest contamination with weeds was found in winter wheat grown after field beans.
