Extract: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the effects of price supports in the context of an environment which contains these in addition to such instruments as farmer-held reserves. Uncertainty is incorporated explicitly as is the international trade sector. Propositions are derived concerning the choice of policies to support farm income at a given level. We demonstrate how these policies change as international trade becomes a growing percentage of total domestic production.
