Extract: The purpose of this paper is to present alternative estimators of the parameters of the gamma distribution from grouped frequency sample data based on methods that do not require arbitrary assumptions regarding the use of midpoint for each class as well as the assignment of an average value for the uppermost class that has an open upper limit. The maximum likelihood, least-squares and minimum chi-squares estimators are proposed. The analytical solution for the parameter estimates is found difficult and a numerical searching method is suggested. Numerical experiments on simulated data show satisfactory results.
