Abstract: The goal of the YMCA's way to weight managemenet is to encourage the development of a lifestyle that leads to weight loss and permanent weight management. The approach consists of analyzing eating behaviors, exercise habits, and food choices. The program takes a group support approach and relys on commitment of participants for success- including attending classes, making changes in lifestyle, keeping records and making weight control a definite priority. Setting goals and planning are two other important aspects of the program. Increasing awareness of eating habits, managing eating times, figuring energy costs, managing food choices, lowering caloric intake, managing eating behaviors, managing special situations and continuing commitments are topics discussed throughout the program.
