Combs, Gerald F.
Abstract: A 2-volume reference set for biologists, biomedical professionals, and biochemical researchers involved in mineral and trace element metabolism presents the proceedings of a 1984 international symposium covering current research topics on selenium (Se) in biology and medicine. The 122 technical papers are grouped among 9 major themes, including: basic characteristics of Se and its role in biology and medicine; biochemical functions of Se; metabolic interactions; Se bioavailability studies; Se analysis in biological samples; assessing Se status in humans and its content in foods; animal studies on Se metabolism and function; Se in human disease prevention; and the role of Se in cancer. Numerous data tables and graphs are presented throughout this 2-volume reference set, and literature citations are appended to each of the papers.
