Abstract: This thesis publishes the results of a study conducted to determine the effect of macrobiotic diets on the nutritional status and growth of children. Graphs and tables are used extensively to report the statistical findings. The relationship between diet, growth, blood chemistry and psychomotor development in the Dutch population of children on macrobiotic diets was studied. The study concluded that nutritional deficiencies are present in a high proportion of macrobiotic infants and that it is adv isable to adapt the macrobiotic diet to include fatty fish (100-150 g/week), oil (20-25 g/day) and dairy products (one serving per day).
