Abstract: Estimates of national and state level socioeconomic, demographic, and food and nutritional characteristics of households for the period 1977-78 are presented in these reports from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Extension Service. The data base on which estimates are based was constructed from two independent national surveys: the 1976 Survey of Income and Employment and the 1977-78 Nationwide Food Consumption Survey. Each state's report is divided into three sections. Section I describes the variables contained in each of the individual survey data files that were used to build the combined data base, CIEFAN (Combined Survey of Income and Education, and Food and Nutrition). Section II describes the methodology used to create the merged data base and the structure of CIEFAN Section III provides a summary of each of the national estimates of household characteristics. Appendices present two series of tables showing how food and nutrition characteristics are distributed among households classified by socioeconomic and demographic characteristics for the U.S. overall.
