"The Complete Country Housewife is an unabridged reproduction of an eighteenth century English guide to country living. It nevertheless seems a timely book, partly because of current interest in our past, but mostly for the wealth of information on the ways of rural living. It has many elements of a cookbook- but with a difference! The numerous wine and beer recipes for instance, or the instructions for attracting song birds will be welcomed equally by the urbanite and by the country dweller. We have made the book as attractive as possible by recreating the appearance and feeling of the 1770 original. The old Caslon type was reproduced directly from the first edition, the laid paper is similar to that of the eighteenth century, and the cover is sewn following the practice of the period.
