Paper reports on the changes in credit and deposit activities in agricultural cooperatives in South Korea from 1961 to 1975. emphasis is placed on the role which savings deposits have played in growth of the cooperatives. four major conclusions are highlighted: (1) the agricultural cooperatives have mobilized very large amounts of voluntary savings, (2) government interest rate policies have allowed cooperatives to provide members with attractive incentives to save, (3) low income farmers are willing to save significant amounts if incentives and opportunities to save are available, and (4) rational credit savings activities can help to build strong cooperatives.
