The Canadian government inaugurated a new beef grading system in September, 1972 and with it came adjustments in the beef marketing system and also problems with regard to its performance. the study examined these concerns in three phases: (1) The prediction of retail cutability and the subsequent pricing accuracy of the new beef grades; (2) The economic factors and conditions which lead to the necessity of developing a satisfactory grade classification scheme and the impact of changes on the individual sectors of the beef marketing system; and, (3) The consumer and her knowledge of grades and their usefulness.
