Teaching WIC clients about fast foods

Abstract: Since a significant number of Special Supplement Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) clients are teenagers who frequent fast food establishments, this nutrition education kit involves fast food nutrition to assist paraprofessionals in educating clients. Nutritional strengths and weaknesses of fast food are identified and ways to improve nutritional adequacy of fast food meals are presented. The kit includes nutrient comparison cards, a lesson plan, sample handouts about choosing fast foods and the nutritional analysis of fast foods, a survey and reference materials (explanation of the comparison cards, nutritional content of fast foods, and a packet description).
