Extract: This report is based on a portion of the Resource Economics Survey, a 1978 survey of landowners in the U.S., conducted by the Natural Resource Economics Division of ESS. The data presented provide information reported by landowners on the past, present (1978), and planned (1980) uses of the land converted to crop production in the 48 conterminous States during the 1975-77 period. The data also provide information on the factors considered important by the owner in the decision to change the land use; the time period when the land was acquired and during which it was used previously as cropland; and improvements made on the land associated with the cropland use.
