Index of nutritional quality food profiles, nutrient standards based on USRDAs
1977
Hansen, R. G.
Abstract: Introduced is the concept of Index of Nutritional Quality (INQ) which can illustrate the nutritional content of foods by relating nutrients in foods to kilocalories contained. The INQ can provide qualitative and quantitative evaluations of foods for menu planning, menu evaluation, and diet evaluation. Food composition nutrient data and calculations for food profile graphs are provided for a large number of specific foods. An accompanying plastic overlay enables the user to determine the relationship between the nutrient content and the energy content of foods and whether a meal is well balanced. Foods which provide a high concentration of protein relative to calories are listed with their INQ and other data.
