O. C. (Oscar Clemen) Stine (1884-1974) started working at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in 1916 as an economist in the Office of Farm Management. In 1921, he moved into the Division of Statistical and Historical Research of the Bureau of Agricultural Economics (BAE), which he headed during the 1920s. Stine was appointed assistant chief of the BAE in 1946, in charge of prices, income, and marketing.
