Abstract: Sixty nine research instruments used for data collection and evaluation are identified and described in this inventory assembled by the Society for Nutrition Education (SNE) and its Educational Services Policy Advisory Council (ESPAC) for nutrition educators and researchers. Instruments included in the inventory were described by developers using a standard profile form. Instrument descriptions include the following information: title, developer, cost, time to administer, population for intended use, area designed to measure (knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, skills, preferences, needs, opinions) and assessment method (self-report, interview schedule, observation schedule). Descriptions also include information about instrument content, procedures used in instrument development, instrument testing and revision, content and construct validity, difficulty and discriminability index, need for special training, and availability of descriptive manual and normative data. Inventory instruments have not been rated or endorsed by SNE or ESPAC. Determination of instrument quality and appropriateness for nutrition education research needs is considered the responsibility of the potential user.
