Pest management in Douglas-fir seed orchards
1988
Hoy, James B. | Haverty, Michael I.
The computer program described provides a Douglas-fir seed orchard manager (user) with a quantitative method for making insect pest management decisions on a desk-top computer. The decision system uses site-specific information such as estimates of seed crop size, insect attack rates, insecticide efficacy and application costs, weather, and crop value. At sites where information on insect attack is not available, regional attack rates within the program may be used. The heart of the decision system is a payoff analysis. It evaluates alternative management actions and identifies the best action under the best or worst conditions, and the action that mini-mizes the opportunity cost. Tutorial help is included in the program as well as utility programs for entering local weather data.
