The aims of this year's conference were to: --- update the state of knowledge on carcinogenic risks present in the workplace and general environment in order to define the scientific bases for more stringent regulations and more effective prevention ---present the results of studies on hazardous agents and situations brought about by recent technological innovations and new lifestyles in order to suggest the application of new strategies for prevention --- evaluate data on the diffusion of industrial hazards from developed to developing nations --- review the scientific tools currently available for prevention and, if necessary, re-direct the strategies.
