Dietary protocol for the patient who has suffered a myocardial infarction
1978
Hemzacek, Karen Innes
The information available about nutritional therapy for treatment of acute myocardial infarction is summarized. The principles serve as the rationale on which the cardiac diet, as used at Lutheran General Hospital in Illinois, is based. Practical consideration of such factors as consistency of foods, size and frequency of meals, food temperature, and restricting of sodium, caffeine, and cholesterol is discussed. Sample menus are shown. A diagram illustrates physiologic response after coronary artery occlusion.
