Manganese and cholesterol intakes and blood serum cholesterol levels of young adult men and women

Extract: The objective of this survey was to retrospectively assess serum cholesterol levels of 167 young adult men and women in relationship to dietary intake of cholesterol and manganese. The subjects were categorized according to race/nationality sex. Manganese intakes were negatively correlated with cholesterol intakes although this was only significant (P less than 0.05) for the male subject group. For this group, a near-significant, negative correlation was found between manganese intakes and blood serum cholesterol levels. Cholesterol intakes were positively correlated with serum cholesterol in males and in the Asian/Oriental group.
