Use of mathemtical apparatus of fuzzy set theory to solve problems in biotechnology

It is proposed that the mathematical apparatus of fuzzy set theory be used to solve scientific and engineering problems relating to optimization of modeling for biotechnological systems that can be classed as "fuzzily defined." The present paper discusses a technique for applying this new approach in investigation of living systems for which qualitative information is available in the form of linguistic descriptions of phenomena. An example is given of modeling of a complex biotechnological system and prediction of product quality on the basis of subjective process parameters determined by expert assessment.
