This study focuses on a medium-term forest harvesting problem considering the protection of environmental components such as soil, water resources, and landscape. A mathematical model that elaborates different environmental protection alternatives for each environmental component and the net present value of the forest company was developed. This is a mixed-integer linear programming model based on the lexicographic goal programming approach. The results obtained using this model show clearly the conflict that exists between the environmental protection and the net present value of the forest company, but, more important, this model allows one to obtain equilibrated solutions in terms of both the environmental components and the economic criterion.
