In the suburbs of Saransk, an excess of permissible concentration in the forest belt protection zone was found for Fe and Cr in the forest shelter belt soil in terms of Zn and in the band and 10 m from it in terms of Co. Pb contamination was observed in the forest shelter belt soil, indicating its ability to block anthropogenic emissions, in particular this element. It is shown that concentration of heavy metals in the soil in the direction of the leeward side from the forest shelter belt extends to 30–50 m and up to 100 m in terms of Ni.
