Effect of fiber supplements on the apparent absorption of pharmacological doses of riboflavin

A study involving 12 healthy women (ages 22-39) given a riboflavin load test assessed whether psyllium gum (PG) with/without wheat bran, or wheat bran alone, influences riboflavin absorption. The results indicated that PG reduced 24-hour apparent riboflavin absorption. Wheat bran did not appear to influence riboflavin absorption. These results have implications regarding the bioavailability of dietary riboflavin.
