Natural occurrence of vomitoxin in Austrian and Canadian corn

Vomitoxin was found in 2 Austrian maize samples at 1.3 and 7.9 p.p.m. and in 1 Canadian maize at 7.9 p.p.m. All 3 samples were rejected when fed to pigs. Feed made from the last sample contained 1.4 p.p.m. vomitoxin.Fusarium graminearum [Gibberella zeae] was found in 2 Austrian maize samples and 4 of the isolates produced vomitoxin at 3.7-16.7 p.p.m.
