Agricultural Energy Management Plans: Conception to implementation

The purpose of including energy conservation in the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (2008 Farm Bill) are discussed. The paper presents the agricultural energy management plans, the different elements of an agricultural energy management plan, and the benefits of these plans to the farmers. A case study from a completed agricultural energy management plan for three poultry broiler operations (two turkey farms and one chicken facility) in West Virginia participating in the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, is also presented.
