Subjectivity in the Separation of Organic Horizons of the Forest Floor
1982
Federer, C. A.
Repeated measurements of the thicknesses of L, F, H, and A1 horizons for 30 years in six New Hampshire forest stands indicated that observers define and separate horizons differently. Consistent use of the new Soil Conservation Service definitions would help eliminate this difference. However, valid comparison of measurements on the forest floor among studies or over time is questionable.
