Nonalcoholic 'beer' and 'wine': how close to the real thing?

This consumer-interest article is about the growing number of non-alcoholic beers and wines. Despite their promotion, the non-alcohol products are not without controversy. The concerns are about the amount of alcohol that may actually be in the products and whether alcoholics can safely use them as substitutes for alcoholic beverages. Non-alcoholic drinks may not be entirely free from alcohol, as there is no known process that will extract all the alcohol from an alcoholic drink. Despite the controversy over their possible alcohol contents, many of those who have tested these products have found them to be highly acceptable. Because the products have found a market for consumers, relabeling the beverages to something other than "non-alcoholic" may be the ultimate choice.(lsp)
