Metal protein interactions
1987
Sarkar, B.
A detailed technical review summarizes and discusses the broad literature concerning in vivo interactions between trace elements and proteins, with particular regard to a number of important biological functions served by such interactions. Chemical structural and metabolic effects are described for protein-metal ligands and the metabolic roles they play in human function, nutritional status, and health protection. Particular attention is given to ligands of various proteins and amino acids with copper, zinc, iron, and nickel. Analytical methodologies used in the studies of the fine structure of the ligands and the strength of such ligands also are described.(wz)
