Thermogenesis above maintenance in humans
1990
Norgan, N.G.
The author provides an overview of studies of human overfeeding and the mechanisms behind physiological responses. Maintenance (constant body energy content over a period of at least 24 hours); responses to supra-maintenance energy intakes (overfeeding); facultative regulatory thermogenesis in humans and; thermogenesis below and at maintenance are discussed. The author concludes that there is little evidence for significant facultative regulatory increases in energy expenditure with overfeeding in normal weight adults at intakes of 1 to 5 times maintenance.
