Evaluation of plant extracts against banded leaf and sheath blight of Little Millet caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kühn

Banded leaf and sheath blight caused by Rhizoctonia solani is an emerging disease of little millet (Panicum sumatrense) and becoming a constraint for its production in the country under favourable conditions. The presence of antimicrobial compounds in higher plants recognized as an important factor in the disease management strategies. Bio-efficacy of 8 plant species belonging to 7 family for their antifungal effect on mycelia growth of R. solani was studied. Aqueous bud extract of garlic and rhizome extract of ginger completely inhibited the radial growth followed by onion bulb extract (92.5%), neem leaf extract (76.7%), dhatura leaf extract (75.3%), tulsi leaf extract (70.8%), parthenium leaf extract (69.3%) and bel leaf extract (51.4%) at 9% concentration after 144 hrs. of incubation.
