The Role of the community dietitian in a multi-disciplinary approach to nutrition education in an area of multiple deprivation
1984
Angove, Ruth
An evaluation of a nutrition education project which was undertaken in an area of multiple deprivation in Glasgow was made by the community dietitian. The project included a survey of mothers' attitudes, beliefs, and practices in infant feeding, coupled with infant growth measurements. The project took the form of exploring ways in which the role of community dietitian could be extended to address the nutritional problems of the area. The survey revealed a low incidence and short duration of breastfeeding, early introduction of inappropriate solids, a lack of knowledge, and unusual attitudes. Other experiences and interactions with the area's primary care team, community education department staff, local schools, the social work unit, and other local contacts are described. (wz)
