Pictorial guide to canine and feline blood smears. Part 3: abnormal findings – leukocytes and platelets
2021
Papasouliotis, Kostas | Murphy, Kate
Background: A variety of diseases can cause morphological abnormalities of leukocytes and platelets. Most of these abnormalities cannot be detected without a blood smear examination. Accurate detection can aid in the diagnosis and the implementation of appropriate treatment. Aim of the article: This is the last in a series of three articles on practical haematology in dogs and cats. The aim of this article is to help veterinarians gain confidence in recognising common changes in the morphology of leukocytes and platelets that can be seen during a blood smear microscopic examination in clinical practice.
