Practising sustainable forest sector development in Canada: a federal perspective
1991
Maini, J.S.
Stewardship of Canada's vast forest environment is a national as well as a global responsibility. Forests have environmental limits and degrade when these limits are exceeded. Sustainable development requires managing the impacts of human activities within these tolerance limits. Moving towards sustainable development demands changes in current forestry practises and forest product manufacturing, and better protection of forest lands from other industrial activities. Forestry Canada is playing a lead role in this effort through its research, development, federal-provincial forestry development agreements, and policy formulation.
