Nutrition news may sidetrack the elderly in their nutrition efforts

Results and discussion of a content analysis of nutrition reporting in media as it relates to older individuals. The analysis was conducted nationally over a three-month period in 1995, with media outlets ranging from large metropolitan area newspapers to television talk shows. The analysis examined the major topics, sources, themes and opinions about food and diet in approximately 1,000 news reports, which accounted for 10,000 column inches and 11 hours of television. The research was commissioned by International Food Information Council Foundation and conducted by the Center for Media and Public Affairs.
