Ursane-type triterpenes from Rubus wallichianus Wight & Arn and their chemotaxonomic significance

A phytochemical investigation of the whole plant of Rubus wallichianus Wight & Arn led to the isolation of a previously uncharacterized ursane-type triterpene, wallichianusine A (1) along with 13 known ursane-type triterpenes. The chemical structures were established from extensive spectroscopic analysis. Nine compounds were reported for the first time from R. wallichianus Wight & Arn. The chemotaxonomic significance of ursane-type triterpenes was discussed in relation to R. wallichianus Wight & Arn.
