Gender analysis of motivational and allied factors in dairy cooperatives

The objective of the present investigation was to investigate the profile, motivational factors, herd size, production and sale of milk, profitability and satisfaction and entrepreneurial traits of dairy cooperatives on gender basis. The study was conducted in Haryana State, India on a sample of 200 members of dairy cooperative, comprising of 100 men and 100 women drawn from 10 villages of two districts. It was revealed from the study that majority of men and women were in middle age group, had nuclear families, men had better educational status and annual income was considered in middle range. Majority of the men members have 3–5 cattle (48%) and women up to 2 cattle (53%). The daily production and sale of milk was high for men i.e.18.4 and 13.1 litres while this was 15 and 10 litres by women members, respectively. Both genders feel that dairying is moderately profitable and were highly satisfied. On the motivational front, majority of members reported that dairying is an economical enterprise with high social recognition as the main reasons while rank order correlation was 0.84 on gender basis. On entrepreneurial traits the gender differences were found to be significant.
