The content and composition of organic matter (OM) in structural units of agrochernozems of different positions on the slope are quantitatively assessed. The Haplic Chernozems (Loamic, Pachic) of a long-term multifactor field stationary experiment of the Russian Institute of Agriculture and Soil Erosion Control (Kursk oblast) on the plateau and the north facing slope have been examined. Erosion causes a significant loss of the OM of water-stable structural units isolated by wet sieving of the 2–1 mm air-dry aggregates. The main patterns of carbon (C) content recovery in the aggregate structure of agrochernozem in the depositional zone are described. The quantitative and qualitative composition of different OM pools in water-stable macro- (2–1 mm) and microaggregates (<0.25 mm) isolated by wet sieving from the 2–1-mm air-dry macroaggregates are compared in detail. The general trend towards a decrease in the amount of discrete OM is observed; this is determined by both erosion and tillage of the agrochernozems of different positions on the slope against the background of the inclusion of subsoil material into the arable horizon in the eroding soil.
