Effect of Methionine Restriction on IGF-1 Gene Expression in Breast Muscle of Japanese Quail

In the present study to investigate the effect of dietary methionine restriction on IGF-1 gene expression in breast muscle of Japanese quail, 200 pieces of the birds were randomly divided into two different dietary groups containing recommended methionine supplement and without the methionine supplement. IGF-1 gene expression levels were measured using the Real time PCR techniques in breast muscle of the Japanese quail at 24 days of age. Also in this age, the body weight and bone characteristics such as Femur, Humorous and tibia were recorded. The results indicate that IGF-1 gene expression significantly increased when the methionine supplement was removed from the diet (P<0.05) while the body weight was decreased No significant difference was found between the two groups for the bone characteristics.
